Richard Walls grew up in Melbourne, Australia, completing most of school and university there gaining a BA in Political Science and Swedish. Then a graduate teaching program to qualify as a secondary teacher in ESL and Social Studies. He worked for 6 months in an English language school in Melbourne before getting a job in Stockholm, thinking he’d teach English there for a year or two... that was in 2004!
He spent 8 years teaching, some years in combination with either studying a Master in Digital Media in Education or working in school leadership. The school was quite digital then and continued to develop, piloted 1-1 in 2007 before rolling out over next couple of years. After a year of walkabout and then a couple of years in San Francisco, not working in education, he landed back in Stockholm 3 years ago. It was then he started his current role as Director of Innovation and Technology.
Richard works at the head office of the Viktor Rydberg Schools Foundation which runs 6 (soon to be 7!) schools in the Stockholm region. He has overall responsibility for making sure the tech works and it continues to develop teaching and learning. He is also involved in the Erasmus+ programme that he will discuss in this podcast.
