Neither Saviour Nor Demon

Neither Saviour Nor Demon

We need to cut through the noise about AI in education. On one side, we've got the starry-eyed evangelists promising a utopian revolution where algorithms solve every educational woe. On the other, the doomsayers warning that robots will make teachers obsolete and turn our children into mindless screen-zombies. The truth? It's somewhere in the messy, complicated middle - and that's exactly where we need to focus.

AI isn't going to magically fix our broken education system, and it's not going to destroy the teaching profession either. It's a tool - an incredibly powerful one, yes - but still just a tool that we humans get to decide how to use. The key word here is 'responsible.' How do we harness AI's potential while mitigating its risks? How do we ensure it serves all students, not just the privileged few? These are the questions that actually matter.

The narrative around AI in education needs a serious reality check. It's not about eliminating teachers with chatbots or turning education into some soulless automated process. It's about augmenting human capabilities and addressing persistent challenges that have plagued our education system for decades.
