Walking the Tightrope of Responsible AI
So how do we navigate this complex landscape? AI should be built to enhance the human elements of education, not replace them. This means designing with teachers and students as partners, not just end-users. From the very beginning, AI educational tools must be designed with consideration for all learners, especially those who have historically been underserved by educational technology.
Educators, students, and parents deserve to understand how AI systems make recommendations or assessments. "It's complicated" isn't good enough when children's futures are at stake. Students shouldn't have to surrender their privacy for educational opportunity. Clear policies around data ownership, usage, and protection are non-negotiable. Consent means consent.
